FOUNDATION
Preserving Heritage. Building Brighter Tomorrows.
A commitment to culture, community, and a more compassionate future.
OUR MISSION
A More Connected and Compassionate World
The Aramea Foundation is a humanitarian organization dedicated to preserving Syria’s rich cultural heritage, empowering displaced communities, and creating meaningful initiatives that inspire understanding, dignity, and hope for future generations. It takes its name from the ancient Aramaic civilization of the Levant – one of the oldest in human history – and from the conviction that what a people has built and remembered deserves to be protected.
Founded and led by Siwar Al Assad, the Foundation operates at the intersection of two commitments that cannot be separated: the humanitarian responsibility to support people affected by conflict, and the cultural responsibility to preserve the heritage that gives those communities their identity and continuity.
CULTURAL PRESERVATION
Safeguarding Our Cultural Legacy
Protecting and celebrating Syria’s history, arts, traditions, and stories for generations to come. The Levant cultural heritage the Foundation seeks to preserve encompasses everything from the architectural monuments of ancient Syria to the oral traditions, folk arts, and communal rituals carried by Syrian communities across the diaspora.
SYRIAN HERITAGE PROJECTS
Restoring What Matters
Supporting projects that document, restore, and uplift Syria’s historic sites and cultural assets. This includes working with researchers, archaeologists, and Syrian communities to create lasting records of heritage at risk – and to advocate internationally for the resources and attention that cultural heritage preservation requires. The partial destruction of Palmyra, a UNESCO heritage site since 1980, made the urgency of this work undeniable.
COMMUNITY INITIATIVES
Stronger Communities together
Investing in education, opportunity, and community-driven programs that create lasting impact. The Foundation supports displaced Syrian families and individuals in diaspora communities – facilitating cultural education for younger generations, connecting communities with resources, and ensuring that the living traditions of ancient Syria are passed forward rather than lost.
